This past week has been very rough for me and my family. I’m not going to go into details about everything, but just know it’s truly been hell! My son and I recently got into a car accident. Thank God we are okay, and so is the other driver, but my car isn’t. She took a beating 😢. The worst part is my car insurance doesn’t cover collision damage, so I have to pay out of pocket for all the damage. If the other driver is found at fault for the collision, he will pay. My bumper was barely hanging on, so I could not drive my car. I decided I should rent a car to get my kid to school and myself to work. But, of course, my broke self didn’t have the money to pay for all of this, so I had to borrow money.
When I went to pick up the rental car, I was informed that, due to my low credit score, they couldn’t rent me the car unless I put it on a credit card. But guess what? No room on that card. So, I was carless for a couple of days. During this same week, I also found out that instead of my normal $2,800 for my crappy one-bedroom apartment, it is now increasing to $3,032. This $232 monthly increase is due to water, sewer, and trash, which seems pretty high for those utilities. I guess it took some time for them to start charging me for this 🤷🏽♀️. I don’t know.
But yeah, finances were already tight, and now it’s worse. I realize this situation wouldn’t be as bad if I had a savings or emergency fund, a higher income, and knew more about car insurance. This situation is exactly why I began this journey. I am tired of being broke and struggling financially. I will update y’all as I work all of this out. In the meantime, please check your car insurance and make sure you have collision coverage!
